    Speaker Break-In

    in General HiFi Discussions

What's your experience with speaker break-in time? I just got in a pair of DALI Oberon 3s to replace my Klipsch RP600Ms. Been listening to them for around 5 hours straight. They've had flashes, but overall I'd say they sound a bit subdued. If I remember correctly my Klipsch took around 2 weeks to break-in (where the sound was noticeably different). Anybody have experience with the DALIs and how long they take to break-in?

I revisited the DALI manual and it says the Oberons need around 100 hours of run-in, which sounds about right in my experience. Although, I've been running them for around 24 hours and can already hear a big difference. Sounds like they opened up quite a bit. My impressions so far: very smooth speaker and extremely non-fatiguing. I was able to listen to multiple albums last night without my ears hurting. This was not the case with the Klipsch, which would tire me out after about one album.

I'm also discovering some detail in albums that I don't recall hearing before. I just re-listened to Currents from Tame Impala and it almost brought a tear to my eye. So smooth, almost sensual.

It's in my experience that the Oberon 3's are far superior to the RP 600M's. For me it was apparent right out of the box. The soundstage and overall sound signature is much nicer. However I'm not really a horn speaker fan.
